After not getting a carry in Week 6, Cam Skattebo could factor back into the New York Giants' running back plans with Najee Harris no longer in the mix.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport , the Giants are releasing Harris after he ran for two yards on four carries in Sunday's loss against the New Orleans Saints.

Skattebo is still not worth starting in fantasy at this point until Giants head coach John Harbaugh shows interest in using him again, but the depth chart in New York is at least less crowded now without Harris.

Skattebo has been among the most disappointing players in fantasy so far this season. He was drafted on average with the 36th pick in PPR leagues coming into the year.

The initial production from Skattebo was solid, as he finished top-20 in PPR points in Weeks 1 and 3. In Weeks 4 and 5, however, he put up a total of 14.7 fantasy points on 34 touches.

An overtime fumble deep in Washington Commanders territory in the 27-27 tie in Week 5 seemed to cost Skattebo his starting role the following week. He didn't start and played a total of six offensive snaps against the Saints.

Harbaugh denied after Sunday's loss that Skattebo was being punished for the fumble against Washington:

"It was not by design. I mean, all those guys were taking equal reps in the first half. We were trying to see who could make something happen, who could kinda get a hot hand and earn it. Nobody's really taking the bull by the horns... It wasn't by design for him not to carry the ball. It was just, when he was in there, we didn't call any runs."

Even though the fumble against Washington was the first Skattebo has lost this season, it was his fourth time coughing up the ball in five games. James Cook III is the only other running back with at least four fumbles so far this season.

Harris' release is unlikely to have a significant impact on Skattebo's touches because he has barely been a factor for the offense. The 28-year-old played a total of 61 snaps in five games.

The Giants had six different players get at least one carry against New Orleans. Tyrone Tracy Jr. led the group with six. No one else had more than four. Some of that can be attributed to the game script because they trailed by as many 24 points in the second half.

This week also is a bad matchup for Skattebo to try getting back on track even if he does see a bigger workload. The Giants will take on the Houston Texans at Reliant Stadium.

The Texans' defense has not been the dominant unit everyone expected so far in 2026, but they are still allowing the third-fewest rushing yards per game. They are also tied for 10th in fantasy points allowed per game to opposing running backs.

You can keep an eye out for Skattebo's snap count in this game as a potential indicator for how big his role in the offense might be going forward, but it's not worth giving him a starting spot until there's definitive proof he will be featured player for the Giants.
