By one eyewitness's account, Trey McBride was the most polite person in his argument with an NFL official on Sunday.
That's according to CBS sideline reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala, who was standing within earshot when line judge Jeff Seeman seemingly lost his temper with the Cardinals' star tight end in the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss to the Giants.
"I was standing right there," she wrote. "What's wild is that it all started with Trey McBride saying 'please' when pleading his case for a PI flag. He was heated for sure, but I never heard a curse from him. The harshest he got was, 'You're ruining the game.'"
Seeman's response was far less restrained, as a CBS camera caught the official appearing to shout "f*ck you" at McBride twice, prompting the Cardinals tight end to turn around, point directly at the camera that had captured the outburst, and burst out laughing at the realization that the whole thing was now on tape.
By Sunday night, the NFL had opened a review. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the league was reviewing the exchange , and a spokesperson confirmed as much to Pro Football Talk shortly after NFLPA executive director JC Tretter posted the damning footage and demanded the league hold Seeman accountable.
Week 4 had already delivered more than its share of colorful, R-rated audio before Seeman joined the chorus. Prime Video's microphones caught Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy cursing at each other during Thursday night's Steelers-Browns game, while Fox picked up Jalen Hurts excoriating one of his receivers . But those outbursts came from players and coaches caught up in the emotion of a game, while Sunday's came from the one man on the field who's paid to stay above it.
The NFL has not said when its review will conclude or what discipline Seeman could face.
