New Daniel Jones Trade Rumors Reveal NFL Deadline Talks With Multiple Teams Amid Vikings Buzz
Amid all of the speculation about Jonathan Taylor's future with the Indianapolis Colts, Daniel Jones is emerging late as a potential candidate to be moved prior to the trade deadline.
Amid all of the speculation about Jonathan Taylor's future with the Indianapolis Colts, Daniel Jones is emerging late as a potential candidate to be moved prior to the trade deadline.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport , multiple teams have called the Colts to inquire about Jones with the trade deadline looming on Tuesday.
The report noted the Baltimore Ravens were among the clubs that checked in about Jones before they made the deal with the Arizona Cardinals for Jacoby Brissett.
Schefter and Rapoport added there has been speculation around the Minnesota Vikings and they "shouldn't be ruled out" as Carson Wentz is set to start on Monday night against the Buffalo Bills with Kyler Murray out due to a hamstring injury.
It's unclear if the Colts will move Jones, but Schefter and Rapoport noted they wanted to wait until this week to at least think about the possibility.
Jones' contract wouldn't seem to be prohibitive to a deal. He has a $33.5 million base salary next season, but he has a $10.5 million injury guarantee that doesn't trigger until March 15.
Rapaport and Schefter noted Jones would at least consider waiving the injury guarantee if he wanted to play for another team.
The Vikings are in a fascinating spot with their quarterback position right now. Murray has not provided the boost they were hoping for after signing him in the offseason. He ranks 26th out of 31 qualified quarterbacks in success rate (38.5 percent). His 44.6 QBR ranks 26th.
Jones actually ranks worse than Murray in QBR (39.6), but slightly better in success rate at 41.0 percent.
Wentz certainly has his flaws, but one thing he has done during his Vikings tenure is get the ball to Justin Jefferson.
Jefferson has 44 catches, 615 yards and four touchdowns in seven games with Wentz since the start of last season. He has 68 catches, 768 yards and two touchdowns with anyone else at quarterback since 2025.
Jones wouldn't be a guaranteed upgrade over Murray or Wentz, but Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell could be in a situation where he just wants as many options as he can get to solve the offense because their defense is more than capable of carrying them on a deep playoff run.
The Colts figure to be at the center of many trade discussions until the 4 p.m. ET deadline on Tuesday. They have lost four straight games and sit at 2-6 going into Sunday's matchup with the Dallas Cowboys at Lucas Oil Stadium.
