Justin Herbert Responds to Rams' Quentin Lake's 'Deli Meat' Comments Amid Chargers QB's Struggles
If Justin Herbert really is "throwing deli meat" on the field this season, the Los Angeles Chargers quarterback certainly isn't going to admit it.
If Justin Herbert really is "throwing deli meat" on the field this season, the Los Angeles Chargers quarterback certainly isn't going to admit it.
Herbert threw two interceptions in the team's most recent loss to the Los Angeles Rams, with one of them going to Quentin Lake. The safety turned heads during an appearance on the St. Brown Podcast when he said (h/t Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk ), "He was throwing deli meat out there. He's seeing ghosts. I don't know what's going on, but we knew we were gonna get a couple. At least one."
Herbert was naturally asked about those comments, but didn't offer much of a response.
"I haven't looked into it, haven't heard anything about it, so I can't really make a comment about it," the quarterback told reporters . "We're really just focused on what's going on in the building, playing football and doing what we can and doing our best to, you know, go put our best effort out on Sunday. And that's all that really matters. Anything outside of that is out of our control."
Herbert wasn't the only one with the Chargers who was asked about Lake's comments.
"As far as anyone's opinion, I don't see that," Los Angeles head coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters . "Everybody's entitled to their opinion, that's not what I see."
While Herbert is a two-time Pro Bowler and was considered one of the best quarterbacks in the league not long ago, it has been a season to forget to this point.
He leads the league with 10 interceptions to go with just five touchdown passes. What's more, the Chargers are an ugly 0-7 on the campaign and managed just nine points in the loss to the Rams.
It was the second straight game Los Angeles finished in single digits, as it also lost 22-6 to the Kansas City Chiefs.
There is surely no shortage of frustration for the Chargers at this point, but Herbert and Harbaugh didn't offer much of a response to the noteworthy comments from Lake.
