Former Texas A&M coach Klint Kubiak set for NFL HC debut

There will be another Texas A&M alum beginning the 2026 NFL regular season as a head coach . Klint Kubiak will make his head-coaching debut with the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, 16 years after beginning his coaching career at Texas A&M.

Kubiak will open the season against the Miami Dolphins and former Aggie star De'Von Achane, who is coming off a Pro Bowl season that helped him earn a new contract and become the centerpiece of Miami's offense. Kubiak will be without tight end Brock Bowers , but veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins and running back Ashton Jeanty should be available. Barring a last-minute trade, Maxx Crosby will anchor the Raiders' defense.

Gary Kubiak is a major reason the family name already carries weight in Aggieland. He played quarterback at Texas A&M from 1980–82 before returning as an assistant coach. His connection to the program helped introduce Aggie fans to Klint, who later began his coaching career at his father's alma mater.

Klint spent three seasons at Texas A&M, working under Mike Sherman in 2010 and 2011 before serving as a graduate assistant and working with the inside receivers under Kevin Sumlin in 2012. He also earned a master's degree in human resource development from Texas A&M.

Kubiak made the jump to the NFL as an assistant with the Minnesota Vikings in 2013. He bounced around to several teams before returning to Minnesota and eventually becoming the Vikings' offensive coordinator. He later spent time with San Francisco and New Orleans before taking over as the Seattle Seahawks ' offensive coordinator.

Kubiak helped lead Seattle to a 14-3 record while directing an offense that finished third in the NFL in scoring at 28.4 points per game. The season ended with the Seahawks winning Super Bowl LX and helped Kubiak earn his first opportunity to lead an NFL franchise.

Kubiak's time in Aggieland was only the beginning, but it gave him his first opportunity in coaching and added another chapter to his family's history with Texas A&M. Sixteen years later, the former Aggie assistant and graduate will begin the next stage of his career as an NFL head coach .
