Over the last couple of years, the San Francisco 49ers have been connected to quite a few rumors surrounding quarterback Mac Jones.
Last season, Jones stepped in for Brock Purdy when the starter went down with injury early in the year. Jones performed admirably, proving that he was still capable of being a starting NFL quarterback.
In 11 games played in 2025, the 28-year-old quarterback completed 69.6 percent of his pass attempts for 2,151 yards, 13 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He has yet to throw a pass this season. That has led to more rumors before the upcoming November 10 trade deadline.
Jones could simply remain with the 49ers and give the team excellent backup quarterback depth. If something were to happen to Purdy, San Francisco would be able to continue performing at a high level offensively.
Should John Lynch and the 49ers' front office decide to open up to the idea of trading Jones, a few different teams would likely have interest. With that being said, one team in particular has been connected to a possible trade for Jones.
49ers Handed Clear-Cut Trade Destination for QB Mac Jones
The Athletic has released a big board of 50 potential trade candidates before the 2026 deadline. When it came to Jones, they only suggested on landing spot.
That landing spot was none other than the Philadelphia Eagles, who recently ruled Jalen Hurts out for the rest of the season due to blood clot issues.
"Jones is one of the best backup quarterbacks in the league. He should, at some point, get another chance to start. That will most likely come in 2027, as Jones is in the final year of a two-year deal he signed with the 49ers," they wrote.
"But could a team in need of a quarterback — like the Eagles, if they don't take the retool avenue — convince the 49ers to make a deal with an over-the-top offer? It's unlikely. But again, we're trying to have fun here. The 49ers are contenders after a 6-0 start, and keeping some insurance behind MVP frontrunner Brock Purdy makes more sense."
After being selected with the No. 15 overall pick by the New England Patriots in the 2021 NFL Draft, Jones struggled to find consistency. He has played in 64 total games, throwing for 12,741 yards, 67 touchdowns, and 50 interceptions.
More than likely, the 49ers will simply hold onto Jones through the deadline. But, the Eagles are a team worth monitoring if Lynch decides to consider a move.
