Patrick Mahomes is already making a strong case to remain among the NFL’s most dominant quarterbacks after the Kansas City Chiefs opened the 2026 season with four straight wins. Even when the offense has faced pressure and injuries, Mahomes has continued to find ways to deliver. That consistency has now earned him another major mark of recognition, with Pro Football Focus keeping the Chiefs star at No. 1 in its quarterback rankings for Week 5.Patrick Mahomes leads PFF quarterback rankingsMahomes did not need a huge statistical performance against the Las Vegas Raiders to strengthen his standing. In Kansas City’s 30-27 road victory on Oct. 4, he completed 15 of 30 passes for 225 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. The game also tested his ability to adjust on the fly. Rashee Rice exited early with a hamstring injury, while Tyquan Thornton suffered a serious ankle injury late in the contest. Despite those setbacks, Mahomes stayed composed and helped the Chiefs protect their perfect record. His numbers through four games tell a bigger story. Mahomes has thrown for 1,037 yards with nine touchdowns and two interceptions. His 87.8 PFF grade ranks fifth among quarterbacks, but several of his efficiency numbers stand out.His 6.7% big-time throw rate is the best among the quarterbacks measured, while his 1.3% turnover-worthy play rate is the fourth-lowest among quarterbacks with at least 100 dropbacks.Chiefs quarterback continues to add another dimensionMahomes has also been effective when plays break down. He has already produced 46 rushing yards on scrambles and one rushing touchdown, with his 75.9 rushing grade ranking seventh among qualified quarterbacks. His approach to the deep passing game has also evolved. Mahomes recently acknowledged that he had been focused too heavily on throwing deep passes perfectly in stride. He wanted to give his receivers more room to adjust and make plays.“One of Patrick Mahomes’ biggest critiques of himself recently was that he was trying to hit every deep ball PERFECTLY in stride. He wanted to start putting more air underneath them and giving his WRs a chance to make a play.We are seeing the results! 🔥”That adjustment could become even more important as Kansas City deals with injuries at wide receiver. The Chiefs will now get some recovery time during their Week 5 bye before returning home to face the Los Angeles Chargers on Oct. 18.For Mahomes, the break arrives with Kansas City unbeaten and the quarterback still sitting at the top of PFF’s rankings.Stay updated with the latest Asian Games 2026 news, check the Asian Games medal tally and complete Asian Games schedule.Get the latest Sports News and Live updates.
