Cleveland Browns edge-rusher Jared Verse took exception to his teammates' reaction after he was slammed to the turf in the 27-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

During one point-after attempt, Steelers guard Mason McCormick had Verse mid-air and forcefully pushed him down. Verse not only described that as "dirty s--t" but also said he expected his teammates to come to his defense:

Steelers safety Jaquan Brisker told reporters following the game the two-time Pro Bowler "should have kept his mouth shut" after dishing out some trash talk when the Browns beat Pittsburgh earlier this year.

Verse said that's just his nature, and he believes he performs better when there's a "personal" edge:

In a rivalry game like this, neither team needs any additional motivation. Verse supplied some anyway when he suggested the Browns were going to "make Pittsburgh ours on Sunday."

That obviously didn't happen, and the Steelers offensive line kept Verse in check. He was limited to one total tackle.

Browns coach Todd Monken didn't call out any specific players but made some pointed comments in the aftermath.

"We weren't very poised and we didn't keep our composure," he told reporters Monday. "And you are how you play, not how you talk. And that was the message all week. It'll continue to be our message each week. And that is 'speak with your play.' I'll leave it at that."

Verse is in his first year with Cleveland after coming over in the Myles Garrett trade. He remains without a sack through eight games.
