Titans reportedly waive former second-round pick Will Levis
Levis was heading into the final year of his rookie deal and now gets a fresh start.
The Tennessee Titans are reportedly waiving quarterback Will Levis, per The Ringer's Tom Pelissero .
Levis was drafted in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft by Tennessee. He got the chance to start 21 games between the 2023 and 2024 seasons, but was replaced after the Titans selected Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler added to Pelissero's report that the quarterback requested his release so that he could get a fresh start with a new team.
Since Levis was drafted in the second round, he did not have a fifth-year option available. As such, he was heading into the final year of his four-year contract with the Titans, but he will now be free to sign anywhere if he passes through waivers.
Levis made nine starts as a rookie in 2023. Tennessee had a 3-6 record in the games that he started, and he finished with 1,808 yards, 8 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions.
The Titans turned to their young quarterback again in 2024 for 12 games. Levis led them to a 2-10 record in that span and had 2,091 yards with 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
He helped the franchise earn the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but Tennessee opted to draft his replacement, Ward, who will start for the Titans again this season. Tennessee signed veteran Mitch Trubisky this offseason, who will back up Ward.
Levis requesting his release would not be a surprise. He went viral this offseason for saying in an interview that he "100% believed" he could still be a starter in the league and "there are not 32 quarterbacks in this league better than me."
Looking around the league, there are not too many obvious landing spots for Levis. A team could certainly claim or sign him, but the lone quarterback battle that hasn't been decided yet is with the Atlanta Falcons, who are deciding between Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix Jr.
Anything can happen, though, and Levis now gets the chance to bet on himself and sign with a new franchise for a fresh start.
