Buffalo Bills safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson was ejected from Sunday's matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders in the second quarter after appearing to spit in the direction of Brock Bowers and other Las Vegas Raiders players.
CJGJ acknowledged after the game that he needs to do a better job of managing his emotions and that he let his teammates down. He said he apologized to the team and spoke with the coaching staff following the incident:
Gardner-Johnson, 28, is never far from controversy, so Sunday's ejection won't shock anybody. But it left the Bills without a defensive starter for the entire second half.
The NFL could decide to take further disciplinary action against Gardner-Johnson upon further review next week.
Last season, Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter was ejected before the first play of the team's season opener against the Dallas Cowboys for spitting in the direction of Dak Prescott.
The league ultimately ruled that because Carter did not play a down, he served his one-game suspension in Week 1 and was therefore eligible to play in Week 2.
