One NFL analyst believes J.J. McCarthy needs a 'sequence of luck'
This NFL analyst doesn't appear to have much confidence in J.J. McCarthy's future.
J.J. McCarthy's tenure with the Minnesota Vikings was rocky, to say the least. He missed his first full season with a knee injury, lost a training-camp battle to Kyler Murray, was demoted to QB3 on the depth chart, and was traded to the New York Giants , all while on his rookie deal. He could find success outside of Minnesota, but one NFL analyst believes he's going to need a lot of luck.
Sam Monson and Steve Palazzolo of the Check the Mic podcast believe that McCarthy will need a series of fortunate events to find success in the NFL:
"JJ McCarthy is now in a situation where he needs a Geno Smith sequence of lucky things to happen for him to ever get another opportunity."
This is likely the case for McCarthy. Yes, the Giants took a chance on him, but he is viewed as the backup to the backup- nothing more. If this is meant to be a reclamation project for John Harbaugh, that's great. Good luck. But if the expectation is to get quality backup play out of McCarthy, they may be sorely mistaken. The league may pass the former 10th overall pick by, should a sequence of lucky events not transpire.
