Washington Commanders Named Potential Shedeur Sanders Trade Suitor

The Washington Commanders moved to 0-2 following their loss to the NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys on Sunday in Week 2 NFL action.

Unfortunately, losing the game wasn't the only loss the Commanders suffered. They also saw franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels go down with yet another serious elbow injury.

On the final play of the first half, Daniels was trying to punch the football into the end zone. As he snapped the football, his own offensive linemen stepped on his foot, causing Daniels to stumble. Daniels put his left hand down on the field to brace himself, but his elbow ended up dislocating instead.

Just like last season, the left elbow dislocation will force Daniels to miss extended time. That injury has caused some to speculate about what Washington could choose to do in his absence. Marcus Mariota is the projected starter right now, but there are some who think the team could explore trade scenarios.

Washington Commanders Linked as Potential Trade Suitor for Shedeur Sanders

FanSided's Wynston Wilcox has suggested that the Commanders could consider pursuing a trade with the Cleveland Browns for Shedeur Sanders. Past this season, Wilcox believes Sanders would be a quality backup behind Daniels moving forward.

"The Commanders have to find out what their quarterback room of the future is going to look like. Not just this season but moving forward," Wilcox wrote . "Mariota is a free agent next year and landing Sanders gives them a young backup that can not only develop, but give them decent play in a pinch if need be. It also gives them the chance to bring in a veteran as a third option to mentor both."

What would it take for Washington to acquire Sanders from the Browns? Wilcox suggested one potential trade scenario.

In his suggestion, the Commanders would acquire Sanders and a 2027 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round selection.

Sanders has not played this season. Cleveland decided to give the starting job to veteran signal caller Deshaun Watson following a quarterback competition in training camp and preseason action. As a rookie in 2025, he played in eight games and cmpleted 56.6 percent of his pass attempts for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.

Whether or not the Browns have interest in trading Sanders at this point in time remains to be seen. But, if he's available and the Commanders decide that they need another quarterback, this idea could make a lot of sense for all parties involved.
