Eagles QB Joe Milton will reportedly make first career start in Week 9 vs. Giants
This will be the first start of Milton's NFL career.
The Philadelphia Eagles will start quarterback Joe Milton this weekend against the New York Giants, per ESPN's Adam Schefter .
Milton takes over for Tanner McKee, who was called on to fill in for quarterback Jalen Hurts, who is out indefinitely due to blood clots in his lungs .
This will be Milton's first career NFL start, and his first game action for Philadelphia since the franchise signed him away from the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad on Oct. 16.
Milton, 26, spent his collegiate career between Michigan and Tennessee from 2018 to 2023. The Patriots drafted the quarterback in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
He hasn't had many opportunities to play, but when he has, he's impressed with his arm strength.
Milton took the field for the first time during Week 18 of the 2024 season, coming on for Drake Maye. The quarterback threw for 241 yards and a touchdown, plus 16 yards and another score on the ground. After the season, the Patriots traded him to the Cowboys.
In his lone full season in Dallas, Milton appeared in four games. Overall, he had 183 passing yards, a passing touchdown, two interceptions and 50 rushing yards on five carries.
The Cowboys waived Milton this fall when Sam Howell earned the backup quarterback role, but Dallas signed him to the practice squad.
Philadelphia drafted McKee in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He has been mainly used as a third-string quarterback, including this year. McKee began the season behind Hurts and Andy Dalton, but the Eagles released Dalton before Hurts was injured and promoted McKee to backup.
He has played in three games this year, and Philadelphia has lost all three. McKee has thrown for 638 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
The Eagles are 2-6 and in last place in the NFC East. Philadelphia has a chance for a much-needed win this weekend against a 4-2-1 New York squad that currently leads the division.
After this weekend's game against the Giants, Philly has its bye week. Then, starting in Week 11, the Eagles play the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cowboys, Arizona Cardinals and Indianapolis Colts.
