Baker Mayfield's View of Revenge Game vs. Browns from Deshaun Watson Trade Revealed in New Rumors

Whatever feelings Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield might about how his tenure with the Cleveland Browns ended reportedly isn't visibly impacting his preparation for Week 2.

The Athletic's Jonathan Jones reported Saturday "multiple Tampa Bay Buccaneers sources tell me they have seen no change in [Mayfield's] demeanor this week before facing his old team."

Mayfield signed a three-year, $165 million extension with the Buccaneers shortly before struggling last weekend in his team's season-opening loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

The quarterback committed three turnovers as the Bucs conceded a 33-27 loss to the Bengals last Sunday.

Mayfield was selected at the top of the 2018 draft by the Browns and played four seasons for the franchise before he was traded in 2022 to the Carolina Panthers for a conditional fifth-round pick.

The Browns acquired and extended Deshaun Watson the same year, only to see Watson's career derailed by suspensions and injuries.

"When there's history between a franchise, a coaching staff, anybody, there's always— you want to come out on the winning side, no matter what," Mayfield said earlier this week about facing his former team. "Obviously, it's very different there, staff-wise, and everybody."

When asked how he planned to not let emotions impact him, Mayfield answered, "Really focusing on the small details. When you do that, good things will happen on Sunday."

Watson, who saw his first NFL action since 2024 in the Browns' season-opening loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, will matchup against Mayfield for the first time since both quarterbacks were traded in 2022 this Sunday at 1 p.m. ET in Tampa.
