Led by a standout performance from Brock Purdy, the San Francisco 49ers held off a late comeback attempt from Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders for a 23-17 victory at home.

Ahead of the game, the undefeated 49ers were 7.5-point favorites over the Commanders, according to FanDuel Sportsbook .

With the win, San Francisco remained one of three undefeated teams in the NFL and became the first to reach six wins.

San Francisco led 20-3 at halftime before Washington mounted a fourth-quarter rally. The 49ers were outscored 14-3 in the second half, but a sack on Daniels during the Commanders' final possession sealed their 23-17 victory.

The 49ers came out firing, scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter.

Purdy connected with tight end George Kittle on an 11-yard pass before Christian McCaffrey capped a 72-yard drive with a rushing touchdown to give San Francisco a 13-3 lead after one quarter.

The Commanders' offense struggled to move the ball in the first half, managing just one field goal before a series of punts and a turnover on downs. The turnover came after Daniels scrambled on fourth-and-2 before throwing the ball out of bounds , seemingly to avoid a sack.

"You don't throw (the) ball away on fourth down," ESPN analyst Troy Aikman said. "You gotta at least give your receiver an opportunity."

Despite a McCaffrey fumble in the second quarter, the 49ers entered halftime with a commanding 20-3 lead as the running back made up for his blunder with his second touchdown of the game.

Washington slowed the 49ers in the second half, holding them to a field goal while finding the end zone for the first time on a short pass from Daniels to Stefon Diggs. The touchdown cut San Francisco's lead to 23-10 heading into the fourth quarter.

Two forced three-and-outs by the Commanders' defense and a touchdown reception by Rachaad White off a pass from Daniels cut the 49ers' lead to one score.

The Commanders ate up the clock on a 5:52 drive but turned the ball over on downs at San Francisco's 27-yard line after an incomplete pass to Treylon Burks in the end zone on fourth-and-3.

Washington's defense forced a three-and-out, giving the offense the ball back with 52 seconds left and a chance to take the lead. However, the 49ers' defense stood strong, sacking Daniels on the final play to seal the victory.

The 49ers will hit the road Sunday to face the Atlanta Falcons at 1 p.m. ET, while the Commanders head into their bye week.
