Jayden Daniels returns to Commanders' practice, not concerned about potentially reinjuring elbow
Daniels dislocated his left elbow in Week 2 and will wear a brace for the rest of the season.
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels was a limited participant for a second straight practice as he begins working his way toward a return to the field after dislocating his left elbow in Week 2 .
Daniels will sport a brace on his left arm for the rest of the season that will see his elbow bent slightly in order to avoid another dislocation. The third-year signal-caller said he is not concerned about reinjury once he's back on the field.
"That's what the brace is for," Daniels said Thursday , three days before the Commanders meet the Indianapolis Colts in London. "If I had that concern, I would have gotten surgery."
After meeting with several specialists , Daniels was not recommended to have surgery . But a procedure could be on the table come the offseason.
"Obviously you have those conversations with people I need to have those conversations with," Daniels said via ESPN . "If the surgery was needed to be ASAP, then I've got to do what's best for me. We had those conversations. I was blessed enough to go back out there on the practice field. ... I'm not really concerned at this moment."
Daniels suffered the injury in his non-throwing arm during the team's loss to the Dallas Cowboys . It is the same elbow he dislocated and reinjured last season. After sitting out last week, he joined the team on the flight to England this week. Head coach Dan Quinn said Wednesday there is still "a chance" the quarterback could play, but "we're not going to put him out there before he's ready."
For now, Daniels is "taking it day by day" and it's not yet known if he will be available to play in Week 4. Marcus Mariota would get a second straight start if Daniels ends up being ruled out.
"I love playing football, I get paid to play football," Daniels said. "Everybody is hurting. I just feel for me being a leader, go out there and give it my shot to go out and play and obviously protect myself. I just love football and have a passion for it."
