Sean Payton says Broncos have no plans to make quarterback change amid Bo Nix's rough start
Bo Nix has just six touchdowns in six games this season.
The Denver Broncos have no plans to make a change at quarterback amid Bo Nix's rocky start. Head coach Sean Payton flatly said "no" when asked whether the team would consider going with another option at the position, per ESPN.
Payton added that some of Nix's issues are likely the result of the entire Broncos' offense struggling so far. Payton said he believes Nix's play will improve naturally as the rest of the offense shows improvement.
"[Nix is] going to become the by-product of all of the finer things that get improved, the improved play of our offensive line, the more efficient we are relative to balance running the football, and that's, you know, that's our job as coaches here.''
Payton also complimented Nix's ability to "climb through adversity," saying that was a reason the team selected him in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Through six games, Nix has tossed just six touchdowns against three interceptions. His 60.3 percent completion percentage is currently a career-low, as are his passing and rushing yards per game. In four of the team's six games, Nix has failed to eclipse 200 yards passing.
Despite that, the Broncos sit at 4-2 on the season. The team's defense has played a significant role in that, holding opponents to 17 points or fewer in three of the Broncos' four victories.
While Nix's play has been problematic, the entire Broncos' offense has struggled in 2026. The team's rushing attack has been held under 100 yards in four of its first six games this season. Last year, the Broncos experienced just five games with under 100 yards rushing over the course of the regular season.
None of the team's pass catchers have emerged either, with running back RJ Harvey leading the team in receptions. Newly acquired wideout Jaylen Waddle has one game with over 100 receiving yards. In the other five, he's averaging just 18 receiving yards per game.
The Broncos quickly recognized the offense was an issue this season. After just four games, Payton reclaimed play-calling duties from offensive coordinator Davis Webb. The Broncos won the two games in which Payton called offensive plays, though the team's offense has yet to show meaningful improvement since the shift.
Getting the Broncos' offense back on track would go a long way toward the team returning to its status as a legitimate Super Bowl contender. The team has already shown it's capable of putting up a winning record while the offense struggles. Getting the team to put points on the board at a league-average rate could get the team back to last season's heights, when the Broncos went 14-3 and earned the top playoff seed in the AFC.
