The two-game suspension for Los Angeles Rams left tackle Alaric Jackson for punching Buffalo Bills linebacker Bradley Chubb in the face has been reduced to one upon appeal.

The NFL announced the decision Wednesday . The decision to reduce the suspension was made by hearing officer Derrick Brooks, who was jointly appointed by the NFL and NFLPA. No reason for the decision was provided.

Jackson will miss Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals, but he will now be eligible to face the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7. Backup David Quessenberry is slated to start Sunday in Jackson's absence. Quessenberry's made 30 NFL starts, but none since the 2023 season with the Minnesota Vikings.

Chubb reveals what he said to set Jackson off

The NFL initially announced a two-game suspension for Jackson on Tuesday, hours after he was caught on camera punching Chubb in the face on the SoFi Stadium field in the aftermath of "Monday Night Football." Chubb's Bills beat Jackson's Rams, 37-34, in a dramatic overtime game in Los Angeles.

Jackson was exchanging his jersey with a Bills player when Chubb started chirping at him.

Chubb then turned around and walked away. Jackson followed Chubb, and the two exchanged words. Jackson then punched Chubb in the face. Chubb's teammates then pulled him away.

At Bills practice Wednesday, Chubb revealed his side of the story about what he said to Jackson. Per ESPN :

"I'll tell you exactly what I said," Chubb told reporters. "I've heard I was talking about his mom. That's not true at all. "I said, 'We're gonna see y'all's ass again. And when we see you again, all that chipping ain't gonna save you. That tight end and guard is not going to save you.' "He said, 'What'd you say?' I said, 'That chip's not gonna save you. The guard's not gonna save you.' And then boom."

Jackson hasn't spoken in public about the punch or the suspension.

Monday's loss dropped a Rams team that was a preseason Super Bowl favorite to 2-3. The loss of their most important offensive lineman to suspension provided another blow to an already difficult season that was softened by Wednesday's news.

The Rams are hoping to get on track with winnable games against the Cardinals, Raiders, Chargers, Commanders and Cardinals again prior to a Week 11 bye.
