Kyler Murray's Injury Status for Vikings vs. Baker Mayfield, Bucs Revealed After Concussion Recovery

Kyler Murray will be back under center for the Minnesota Vikings when they take on Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell revealed Monday that Murray cleared concussion protocol and will resume his role as the team's starter after missing some of the Week 1 win against the Green Bay Packers and all of the Week 2 win against the Chicago Bears.

Murray suffered a head injury in the first quarter during Minnesota's opener against Green Bay.

It seemed as if the Vikings were going to lose their starting quarterback and the game when they fell behind by 12 points in the second half, but Carson Wentz directed a comeback as the home team scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter alone.

"That's why he's here," O'Connell told reporters at the time. "For him to come in and do what he did and just be part of that calming presence that allowed our team to continue playing, I can't say enough about him."

Wentz earned another victory against the Bears, although that was more about Minnesota's defense than its offense. In fact, the Vikings didn't find the end zone in the 9-3 victory and struggled to generate any offensive momentum in the rainy conditions.

Still, the backup did enough to improve the team's overall record to 2-0 just in time for Murray to return to the lineup.

Minnesota signed Murray this past offseason even though the two-time Pro Bowler was limited to just five games with the Arizona Cardinals during the 2025 campaign. He also played just eight games in 2023.

The NFC North team surely hoped he could return to the form he demonstrated as a back-to-back Pro Bowler in the 2020 and 2021 seasons, and now he will have a chance to attempt to do just that when he is back in the lineup against the Buccaneers.
