Just 24 days after signing with the Indianapolis Colts as a free agent, wide receiver Darius Slayton was released on Friday without playing a single game.
The veteran wideout, who played for the New York Giants from 2019 through 2025, signed with the Colts on Sept. 22 but was released after reportedly struggling to learn the offense.
Slayton's release from the Colts hasn't sat right with fans online, with many calling out the franchise's front office and general manager Chris Ballard.
"Ballard is the worst GM in the NFL…. PERIOD," wrote a fan on X.
"What a failure of a move: Slayton played zero snaps for the Colts," commented a fan on X.
With the 2026 regular NFL season now in its sixth week, the Indianapolis Colts sit in second in the AFC South standings with a 2-3 record.
Shane Steichen Reveals Why Colts Released Darius Slayton
Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen opened up about the veteran wideout's abrupt departure from the franchise.
In a press conference on Friday, Steichen acknowledged Slayton's efforts in practice, but said the move simply did not work out as expected.
"He had some good weeks of practice, unfortunately, it just didn't work out and I think those happen. I got a lot of respect for him, what he's done in this league, and I wish him the best going forward."
Slayton did not play a single snap for the Colts. He was sidelined for the Week 5 game against the Steelers with a knee injury.
