'Pissed Off,' Dak Prescott Reacts to Cowboys' Loss to Jaxson Dart, Giants in NFL Week 1 Rivalry Game

The Dallas Cowboys opened the 2026 season with a 28-20 loss against the NFC East rival New York Giants on Sunday Night Football , and their players are not happy about it.

After the game, Cowboys star quarterback Dak Prescott told reporters that he and his teammates are "pissed off" about their disappointing primetime performance.

Prescott threw for just 175 yards, two touchdowns and an interception on 22-of-34 passing in Sunday night's loss. He was outplayed by Giants second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart, who finished with 230 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions while completing 23 of his 29 passes. Dallas also totaled just 69 rushing yards, while New York racked up 165 yards on the ground.

In addition to the lackluster production, the Cowboys also showed a lack of discipline. Dallas committed eight penalties that cost the team 85 yards. When running back Javonte Williams caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from Prescott in the fourth quarter, he committed a taunting penalty that led to Brandon Aubrey missing the ensuing extra point, which would've made it a seven-point game.

"Overall as a football team, we were pretty poor," Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said after the game . "That's certainly not our standard. We certainly didn't come out of the gate fast enough on either side of the ball. This is a humbling business, and we got humbled."

The Cowboys were hoping to return to playoff contention after missing the postseason in each of the last two years, but Sunday's performance shows they have a lot of work to do before they can keep up with the elite teams in the NFC.

Dallas will try to get back on track in Week 2 with another NFC East matchup against the Washington Commanders, who also lost their season opener against the rival Philadelphia Eagles.
