'Uber-Talented' Drew Mestemaker Eyed for 2027 NFL Draft by Insider Despite 2028 Buzz

Drew Mestemaker may not have been on the top of many draft boards coming into the 2027 season, but the Oklahoma State quarterback is turning heads through five games.
Nick Baumgardner of The Athletic called Mestemaker an "uber-talented" prospect who "is a confident downfield passer with enough athleticism to be a real problem at the next level."
Baumgardner's colleague, Dane Brugler, said he is "buying all the stock I can, regardless of whether he becomes a 2027 or '28 prospect," which is notable. After all, Baumgardner added that the signal-caller "ultimately could be a 2028 prospect" even though "it's impossible to watch him and not see first-round stuff."
The 2027 quarterback class is a crowded one with a number of players who could eventually garner first-round consideration in the pre-draft process.
Last month, B/R's NFL Scouting Department released a big board of prospects and ranked Mestemaker as the seventh-best quarterback behind Miami's Darian Mensah, Oregon's Dante Moore, Ole Miss' Trinidad Chambliss, Texas' Arch Manning, Notre Dame's CJ Carr and USC's Jayden Maiava.
That is a number of high-profile prospects at the position, and it doesn't even include Ohio State's Julian Sayin and Missouri's Austin Simmons. They have each received first-round consideration to this point as well and will have opportunities to play their way up big boards as the season progresses.
But even in a crowded group of quarterbacks, Mestemaker has stood out for the Cowboys.
He has completed 67.5 percent of his passes for 1,575 yards, 13 touchdowns and five interceptions while adding two more scores on the ground as a runner. He has thrown for more than 300 yards in each of his last four games, including in Oklahoma State's notable win over Oregon.
Mestemaker showed off his ability to impact the game in multiple ways against the Ducks when he threw for 317 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions while also running for 109 yards and a score.
If he continues to play at such a level as Oklahoma State competes in the Big 12, he figures to remain a factor in 2027 NFL draft discussions.
