Travis Hunter to Be More 'Involved' in Jaguars Offense After Struggles, HC Liam Coen Says

Travis Hunter could be seeing more usage at wide receiver following the Jacksonville Jaguars' Week 2 loss at the Denver Broncos.

Jaguars coach Liam Coen said Wednesday he plans to "look at" giving Hunter more offensive snaps after mainly using him at cornerback so far this season.

"Any time you struggle offensively, specifically, you look at the totality of it all, and Travis is a big part of that," Coen told reporters Wednesday. "We're looking at finding different ways to get him involved. You're also looking at the other side of the ball. I thought he did a nice job throughout the course of the week, and we're going to look at giving him some more this week.

"It is a balancing act, though, right? You're trying to get into a flow, whether it's on offense or defense. But we have corners that we have a lot of confidence in."

Coen concluded, "When you struggle to move the ball specifically in the fourth quarter when we did, and you lose, we've got to go look at it... everything that we're doing, touches, targets, all of that stuff, and he's a part of it."

Hunter has played 58 percent of the Jaguars' defensive snaps and nine percent of the team's offensive snaps through his first two games of the season, during which he has recorded five tackles.

He was targeted once and caught an eight-yard pass during the Jaguars' season-opening win over the Cleveland Browns, during which he was used at wide receiver only in a specialty role, as noted by ESPN's Bill Barnwell.

Hunter came close to an interception on the opening Week 2 drive against the Broncos but took a costly pass interference call later in the loss.

After repeatedly expressing interest in functioning as a two-way player in the lead-up to his rookie season, Hunter was used most on offense during his rookie 2025 campaign before he suffered a season-ending right knee injury ahead of Week 8.

The team seemingly signaled a change in direction this offseason when running Hunter mostly as a cornerback in the final stretch of training camp.

Coen will now need to decide this week if giving Hunter more opportunities on offense is worth potentially re-distributing targets in a wide receiver room currently led by Parker Washington, Brian Thomas Jr. and Jakobi Meyers.

The Jaguars have four days left to adjust before the New England Patriots, and a defense that has allowed just one passing touchdown in two games, come to town Sunday for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff in Jacksonville.
