Mike McDaniel Says 'It Would Be Cool' if Maxx Crosby 'Wanted to Take a Nap' for Chargers vs. Raiders

Mike McDaniel is hoping to avoid a heavy dose of Maxx Crosby this week.

The Los Angeles Chargers' offensive coordinator joked that he wishes the Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher would "take a nap" during this Sunday's clash between the two teams.

"He is relentless and I enjoy the challenge, but it would be cool if he was tired and wanted to take a nap," McDaniel told reporters on Thursday.

Crosby is a force to be reckoned with every time he steps on the field, so it's hard to blame McDaniel for wanting him to take it easy. The defensive end started his season off right in Week 1, picking up two tackles and 1.5 sacks in a 27-13 win over the Miami Dolphins.

Crosby, 29, had a productive season in 2025 despite the Raiders' struggles, logging 73 tackles, 10 sacks, six passes defended, two forced fumbles and an interception.

During the offseason, he appeared to be on his way to Baltimore before the Ravens backed out of the deal . Offensive coordinators in the AFC West rejoiced for a moment before the five-time Pro Bowler returned to Las Vegas.

The Chargers appeared to be sleeper Super Bowl contenders coming into the season, but an upset loss to the Arizona Cardinals has perhaps tempered expectations.

Among the issues in that game was Los Angeles' offensive line, which allowed three sacks and five quarterback hits to Justin Herbert.

"You have a lot of visions coming to a new team and working on something for months — and the vision never looked like that," McDaniel told reporters of his first game as the Chargers' OC. "It was a case of humble pie. Didn't feel good to anyone."

It only gets more difficult this week going up against a Raiders team that recorded five sacks, 11 quarterback hits and an interception in last week's game.

The Chargers are 6.5-point favorites against the Raiders, per FanDuel Sportsbook , but it wouldn't be surprising to see Las Vegas put up a fight.
