After making speculative comments on Jalen Hurts' blood clots, NFL Network's Michael Robinson has issued an apology to the quarterback and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Robinson called his comments "unfounded" and said he shouldn't have "speculated on a health issue of a player nor his commitment to his team."
After Hurts was ruled out for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers, Robinson said the Eagles could be "incentivized to go into the draft and maybe look for a quarterback" and were using Hurts' injury as an excuse to move away from him.
Robinson also suggested that Hurts wanted to get himself "out of the fray" amid a rocky start to the season for the Eagles.
"It looked like they were trying to pin the outcome of this season on Jalen Hurts just so that they could have an excuse later on to move on from Jalen Hurts," Robinson said on NFL Gameday Kickoff . "And, again, I'm not saying I know nothing, guys. But if I'm just playing devil's advocate here, and I'm thinking that way, if I'm Jalen Hurts — or anybody in Jalen Hurts' camp — I'm saying, 'Well if everybody's hurt, I'm hurt, too.' To me, it looked like Jalen is kind of getting himself out of the fray so that this lost season … he's pulling himself out so that this doesn't look like it's on me."
Hurts was placed on the injured reserve on Saturday because of deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli. He was ruled out for the season on Monday after doctors discovered blood clots in his lungs.
Hurts struggled to start the season, throwing for 933 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions, along with 107 rushing yards and a score on the ground through his first five games.
The Eagles are 2-4 to start the year, and things will only get more difficult without their starting quarterback.
