Raiders pitch $158 million Allegiant Stadium upgrade with public money

The Las Vegas Raiders are seeking approval for a $158 million upgrade to Allegiant Stadium 's north entrance, including $75 million in public funding. The proposal would add a larger arrival area with pedestrian and event decks, a public plaza, and transportation improvements around the stadium.

New North Entrance Would Change the Arrival Experience

The proposed project centers on the north side of Allegiant Stadium, where large crowds currently converge after Raiders games and other major events.

The plans include an elevated pedestrian deck, an event deck, a public plaza and improvements to traffic and transportation access. A dedicated rideshare loop would sit beneath the second level, with the goal of making pickups and drop-offs more efficient.

The new entrance would also provide a more direct connection from the Las Vegas Strip, with many fans currently using the nearby Hacienda Avenue bridge to reach the stadium.

Raiders president Sandra Douglass Morgan told the Stadium Authority that the north side has become a pressure point for the guest experience because the existing infrastructure is stretched to capacity.

How the $158 Million Project Would Be Funded

The Raiders are proposing that the Stadium Authority contribute up to $75 million, with the remaining cost covered by the team. The public portion would come from the waterfall residual fund, which is funded by room tax revenue.

The stadium itself opened in 2020 at a reported construction cost of about $2 billion. Public funding contributed to the original project totaled approximately $750 million.

The proposed improvements are intended to prepare the venue for the larger crowds and logistical demands that come with major sporting events and concerts. Allegiant Stadium hosted Super Bowl LVIII in 2024, and the venue is scheduled to host the 2028 Final Four as well as the 2029 Super Bowl.

For now, the project remains a proposal. The Stadium Authority did not take action on August 20, leaving a potential September 2 vote as the next major step.

The Raiders want construction to begin after the 2026 season, with completion targeted for late 2028 or earlier. A successful project would give one of Las Vegas' most prominent sports venues a significantly larger arrival area before it takes on another Super Bowl.
