Chiefs' Chris Jones to Give NIL Money to Keep Heisman Candidate Kamario Taylor at Mississippi State

Kansas City Chiefs star defensive tackle Chris Jones revealed that he plans to donate to Mississippi State's NIL fund in order to help keep Bulldogs quarterback Kamario Taylor at the school beyond the 2026 season.

"I'm going to donate some (NIL), though, we've got to keep this quarterback — we've got to keep him around," Jones told reporters Thursday (h/t Alex Byington of On3.com). "With all these NIL teams spending $45 to $50 million a year, the salary cap doesn't exist in college, so definitely trying to keep our quarterback with us."

Before Jones became a seven-time Pro Bowler and three-time Super Bowl champion with the Chiefs, he spent three seasons at Mississippi State from 2013-15.

The Bulldogs have opened their 2026 campaign with a 3-0 record, sitting at No. 24 in the latest AP Top 25 poll . They've been successful largely due to the efforts of Taylor, who has thrived to begin his sophomore season.

In three games, he's completed 68.3 percent of his throws for 832 yards and 11 touchdowns compared to just one interception. Taylor has also made plays with his legs, rushing for 178 yards and one score.

The 19-year-old's hot start has already put him in the Heisman Trophy race .

If Taylor can put together an impressive overall season, it isn't hard to imagine several schools attempting to land him as a transfer at the end of the year.

Mississippi State athletic director Zac Selmon confirmed that the school will push to keep the signal-caller, though.

"We're going to be as competitive as we need to be," Selmon told On3.com's Andy Staples .

It appears as though Jones will also help contribute to the Bulldogs' efforts.
