Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce faced questions about his fitness level over the summer, but through the first two games of the 2026 season, he's proved his doubters wrong.
Kelce led the Chiefs with nine catches for 101 yards and a touchdown in Sunday night's 33-30 overtime win against the Indianapolis Colts.
During an appearance on SportsCenter after the victory, the 36-year-old told ESPN's Scott Van Pelt that he improved his conditioning over the offseason to help withstand the throes of the NFL season.
"I can't say enough about the support system, the people I have around me and the ability to focus in on the goal at task. One of them through training camp was to get in the best shape of my life," Kelce said (5:55 mark). "Coach [Andy] Reid set the bar high for everybody in that building to get through training camp. Training camp was a lot of dog days, and it whipped us all into shape, and I'm thankful for it."
Amid Kelce's eventful offseason that included his marriage to pop star Taylor Swift, a seemingly AI-generated video went viral showing him appearing overweight. The video was quickly dismissed as fake, but questions still remained about his fitness level entering the year.
After another impressive performance, Kelce made it clear that he still has what it takes to perform at a high level as he tries to help the Chiefs return to title contention.
"It's not as much about the shape that I look like I'm in," Kelce said. "It's about the grit that I have and the heart that I have to get that ball north and to try to find a way to get a victory for my team."
