Myles Garrett to Undergo Surgery, Latest NFL Rumors on Injury Timeline for Return to Rams

After a disappointing debut with the Los Angeles Rams in Thursday's loss against the San Francisco 49ers, reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett is set to be sidelined for the foreseeable future.

According to The Ringer's Tom Pelissero , Garrett is set to undergo arthroscopic knee surgery and will be placed on injured reserve, ruling him out for at least the next four weeks. Garrett will miss games against the New York Giants, Denver Broncos, Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills. His next chance to return to the field will be when the Rams host the Arizona Cardinals in Week 6.

Garrett failed to record a single tackle in Los Angeles' 27-7 loss to San Francisco in the NFL Melbourne Game.

Per ESPN's Sarah Barshop , the star edge rusher called his performance "the worst version of myself that I've put out there" and revealed that his knee wasn't 100 percent healthy entering the game. He had sat out most of training camp while dealing with what Rams coach Sean McVay described as swelling in his knee.

"When I was out there, I was a little bit more focused on myself and trying to stay healthy than what they were doing, and that showed," Garrett said after the loss. "I wasn't who I needed to be for my team."

The Rams acquired Garrett from the Cleveland Browns in the biggest blockbuster trade of the offseason. He earned his second career DPOY award in 2025 after setting a new single-season sack record with 23. His arrival to Los Angeles made the team the clear-cut Super Bowl favorite and also convinced three-time Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald to end his retirement and pursue another championship ring.

For now, the Rams will have to forge ahead without their prized offseason acquisition. They will certainly be hoping to have Garrett back at full strength as the playoffs approach.
