Tyler Shough scores on controversial sneak to stun Ravens in another fourth-quarter collapse

The Baltimore Ravens may have hired a new head coach in the offseason, but they looked a lot like the Ravens of old in Week 2. Despite leading 17-9 in the final quarter, the Ravens were stunned by the New Orleans Saints , who came back to win 24-17 on Sunday.

New Orleans scored 15 unanswered points in the game's final quarter, with quarterback Tyler Shough again finding his stride after a difficult start. With his team down multiple scores, Shough threw a 21-yard touchdown to Chris Olave and then scored a rushing touchdown with 1:30 left to put the Saints ahead for good.

That second touchdown was subject to controversy, as the refs determined Shough crossed the goal line on a sneak despite an unclear angle on replay.

"That was, uh, such an interesting play," Ravens head coach Jesse Minter said. "… You know, those are so subjective, so hard to tell. It is what it is, honestly."

The Ravens had one more opportunity to tie or win the game. Lamar Jackson attempted to rally the team, but threw an interception with 20 seconds left to give the Saints the victory.

It marked the second straight week in which the Saints rallied after a poor first half. In Week 1, the team erased a 21-point deficit to eventually send the Detroit Lions to overtime. Despite Shough hitting some clutch throws in the comeback, the Saints ultimately fell in overtime after trying to go for the win with a late 2-point conversion. Shough's luck ran out on the game's final throw, as it sailed a little too deep out of the end zone, giving New Orleans a 31-30 loss , despite its late heroics.

This time around, Shough and the team pulled out the victory. It once again came after a quiet first half in which the Saints were limited to two field goals. Things remained quiet in the third quarter, as the Saints kicked yet another field goal.

The team finally rallied on its first drive in the fourth quarter, as Shough led a nine-play drive that ended in Olave's score. The Saints then went for 2 and converted on a Travis Etienne run to tie the game at 17.

After forcing a punt, Shough led the Saints down to the 1-yard line. The team attempted a sneak on third-and-goal, though Shough was ruled down at the 1. The team tried a sneak again on fourth down, this one deemed successful.

With the fourth-quarter rally, Shough finished the contest 27-of-34 for 252 passing yards and one passing touchdown. He rushed for 23 yards and a touchdown as well.

Ravens collapse again in the fourth quarter

While the Ravens were incredibly successful during the John Harbaugh era, the team developed a reputation for blowing leads in the fourth quarter. After 18 seasons with the Ravens, Harbaugh was let go in January in favor of Minter.

Minter was brought in to clean up some of those late-game issues and reinvigorate a Ravens offense that was good, but not great, last season.

In Week 1, it appeared Minter solved both issues. The Ravens dropped 41 points in a Week 1 win over the Indianapolis Colts . Baltimore scored 31 points in the first half, and limited the Colts to 10 points in the second half.

As impressive as that performance looked, the Ravens proved in Week 2 that they might not be fully over their old demons. Following Sunday's collapse, Baltimore will look to get back on track against the Dallas Cowboys in Rio de Janeiro next weekend.

The Saints, meanwhile, will take on the Las Vegas Raiders after two encouraging games against tough opponents to open the 2026 NFL season.
