Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season was a wild one, with several unexpected results littering the scoreboards. Of course, Week 1 is often unpredictable because some teams exit the preseason better prepared than others.

In theory, fans should have a little more clarity on which teams are good and which are not entering Week 2. Of course, some of what we saw during the opening schedule will inevitably turn out to be a mirage.

Weather, while typically milder this time of year, is another X-factor that could impact the Week 2 schedule.

Week 2 should go a long way toward confirming or disputing what we saw in Week 1. On Sunday night, for example, the Kansas City Chiefs will battle the Indianapolis Colts in a game that could say a lot about multiple teams.

The Chiefs looked like they could once again contend for a Super Bowl while throttling the Denver Broncos on Monday night. However, Denver simply may have been sluggish coming out of the preseason and playing on the road.

The only things we know for certain about Kansas City right now are that running back Kenneth Walker III is an elite offensive weapon, while quarterback Patrick Mahomes is healthy. Mahomes made the latter point clear with an early 15-yard touchdown run.

"That was definitely the moment, physically, to say all this work has paid off," Mahomes told reporters .

The Colts, meanwhile, were rolled by the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1. Is Indianapolis really that bad, or are the Ravens that good? We'll have some clarity after the Sunday night matchup and after Baltimore battles a New Orleans Saints team that just took the Detroit Lions to overtime.

The Lions, likewise, will have plenty to prove against the Buffalo Bills in Thursday night's opener. Detroit's defense struggled to contain Saints quarterback Tyler Shough and will certainly have its hands full with Josh Allen in Buffalo.

The good news for Detroit, which plays in a dome, is that weather shouldn't be a factor in Week 2. There's a chance of rain, but it currently appears low.

Other teams will be less fortunate. Rain could play a significant role in Chicago, Foxborough, and Tampa, while high heat could be a problem in Houston, Tennessee, and Arizona—though the Texans and Cardinals can close their roofs if the temperatures are too problematic.

Injuries could also be a factor this week, as the Seattle Seahawks, Atlanta Falcons, and Minnesota Vikings all suffered injuries at quarterback ahead of or during Week 1.
