“I’m Glad You Don’t Think So”: Titans QB Cam Ward Clashes With Reporter Over Preseason Performance Assessment

Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward is struggling heavily as his second NFL season approaches. The mounting pressure seems to be getting to the sophomore QB who did not have a great preseason. In two appearances, Ward has managed a disappointing 13 completions for 126 yards.

Even though the team won both games, Ward's inability to score has critics questioning whether he deserves the starting job. As the preseason comes to a close, Ward's poor play is the biggest talking point around the team.

When Nashville podcaster Jared Stillman asked Ward about his struggles on Thursday, the quarterback snapped back and asked the reporter how he thought it was going. The reporter flatly replied, "Not well."

Ward retorted: "I'm glad you don't think so. That's good."

But then, when the reporter asked again, Ward said:

"I assess it as, did we win the game, or did we lose a game? I assess it as what I can get better at. "I don't assess it as, someone who can get up there and operate when everything's on, it's a different process level," he added. "So, it's more of slowing down the game to everybody."

Ward also said that he is positive about the times ahead:

"And I believe we made a huge jump for week one and week two because we're getting more condensed in the playbook. We're not really opening everything up. And, when we come to week one, I think it will be a different story."

GM Mike Borgonzi brought in new head coach Robert Saleh, who has completely reconstructed both the player roster and the coaching staff. However, the starting offense is still out of sync, with Ward averaging a weak 6.9 yards per attempt and just 63 passing yards per game.

Specifically, Brian Daboll's offensive system should maximize Ward's running skills while teaching him how to read defenses. Meanwhile, Stillman warned that a fifth straight losing season could get Robert Saleh fired immediately

"And Robert Saleh in this situation could easily be one-and-done if this team doesn't show signs of improvement because the reason they hired him was his grand plan for Cam Ward…. I don't think he's popular enough to be able to survive it," Stillman said .

The Titans will kick off their 2026 regular season on September 13 against the New York Jets, Saleh's former team.
