Kansas City Chiefs wideout Tyquan Thornton suffered what appeared to be a gruesome and severe ankle injury during Sunday's 30-27 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
Kansas City Chiefs wideout Tyquan Thornton suffered what appeared to be a gruesome and severe ankle injury during Sunday's 30-27 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
After the contest, quarterback Patrick Mahomes spoke about the injury.
"First off, I'm just praying for him," he said on the CBS broadcast. "You never want anyone to get injured and you're hoping it's better than it looked out there. Praying for him, hopefully he comes back healthy."
Tyreek makes another cryptic post amid Chiefs rumors
Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Thornton dislocated his ankle:
The injury came after a brilliant performance from Thornton, who caught five passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns on eight total targets. It was much needed after Rashee Rice left the contest with a hamstring issue.
Thornton, 26, seemed primed for a breakout season in his fifth NFL campaign and second with Kansas City, though he's facing a long layoff after Sunday's injury.
"He's one of the best teammates I've ever had," Mahomes told reporters regarding the injured wideout.
The Chiefs now have a major hole at receiver, especially if Rice is forced to miss any time. For the time being, Xavier Worthy, Cyrus Allen and Jalen Royals are the top options at the position, though don't be surprised if Kansas City adds an external option (let the Tyreek Hill rumors commence).
