Colts QB Anthony Richardson Sr. reportedly charged with marijuana possession
A bench trial has been scheduled for Jan. 4, 2027.
Anthony Richardson Sr. of the Indianapolis Colts is facing a misdemeanor charge for possession of marijuana following an Oct. 12 traffic stop in Carmel, Indiana, according to FOX59 .
"We are aware of the situation involving Anthony Richardson and are currently gathering additional information," the Colts said in a statement. "We will have no further comment at this time."
Court documents obtained by FOX59/CBS4 show that charges were filed on Monday, a week after police officers stopped Richardson's black 2023 Dodge Charger. The vehicle's registration was reportedly expired and was assigned to a different car.
According to police, the car pulled over to the side of the road and officers noticed the "odor of marijuana" as they approached.
Richardson reportedly admitted that he did smoke marijuana in the car so as to not do so in front of his children. He also told police that he possessed a small amount of marijuana in the car.
The quarterback was handcuffed after exiting the car and officers proceeded with searching the vehicle. A small mason jar was reportedly found containing a substance believed to be marijuana and a bag of THC-infused gummies that was opened.
The substance reportedly tested positive for THC. Richardson was not arrested, released and was cited for the expired registration and received a summons for possession of marijuana.
A hearing was scheduled for Dec. 9, but has since been waived. A bench trial will be held on Jan. 2027.
Richardson is the second Colts player to have a run-in with police this season. Wide receiver Keenan Allen was charged with two misdemeanors following his August arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence.
