'Sucks,' Patrick Mahomes Honest After Kenneth Walker, Chiefs Lose Revenge Game to Seahawks
Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes doesn't think he and the rest of the offense did enough to supplement running back Kenneth Walker III in Sunday's 20-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes doesn't think he and the rest of the offense did enough to supplement running back Kenneth Walker III in Sunday's 20-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
"We have to help him. That's the biggest thing," Mahomes said after the game, per ESPN's Nate Taylor . "When they put so many eggs in that basket of stopping the run game, we have to have the play-action game and the movement game to be able to throw the ball. If we're not providing that, they're going to continue to put those guys up at the line of scrimmage. That's hard for the run game."
Walker ran for 36 yards on 14 carries against his old team, his worst performance so far since signing with the Chiefs.
Kansas City couldn't get much going on offense period. It finished with 213 total yards and didn't manage once to get inside the red zone. Taylor noted this was the first time it had happened in one of Mahomes' starts.
"We didn't execute, especially around that midfield area," the two-time MVP said. "It kept us away from a lot of points, or at least enough points to be competitive. We've got to learn from it. You've got to feel it. This sucks. You don't want to perform like this in prime time."
Week 8 presents the Chiefs with an opportunity to rediscover their groove.
The Denver Broncos allowed the second-fewest yards per game in 2025 but have gone backward. They surrendered 392 yards to Kansas City in an opening-week defeat. Walker had 173 yards on the ground and averaged 7.5 yards per carry.
Maybe this is when Denver's defense finally wakes up. Otherwise, it could be a long day against a Chiefs offense with a point to prove.
