Puka Nacua Surgery Decision Revealed, Latest NFL Rumors on Rams Star's Injury Timeline to Return

The Los Angeles Rams reportedly don't expect Puka Nacua to miss significant time with a groin injury.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sunday the team sees the injury as a "short-term" one and "does not believe surgery in this situation will be needed" even though it's "not entirely off the table" if the wide receiver doesn't improve in the immediate future.

Nacua is doubtful for Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos with the setback "that has impacted his explosiveness" but could return for the Week 3 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The two-time Pro Bowler was solid in the season-opening loss to the San Francisco 49ers with five catches for 74 yards on nine targets, but he missed the team's Week 2 win over the New York Giants.

He isn't the only high-profile injury the Rams are dealing with in the early portion of the season, as ESPN and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Sunday defensive end Myles Garrett could miss approximately six weeks after undergoing knee surgery.

This is a difficult portion of the schedule for Los Angeles to have two of its star players sidelined with its next three games against presumed Super Bowl contenders in the Broncos, Eagles and Buffalo Bills.

Fortunately for the NFC West squad, Schefter's report makes it seem as if Nacua will be back sooner rather than later and avoid a surgery that would delay his return to the field.

And the team also has Davante Adams to pick up the slack in the aerial attack while its No. 1 option is out. All Adams did in the win over the Giants was post eight catches for 195 yards and two touchdowns on 10 targets.

Tight end Terrance Ferguson was Matthew Stafford's next option with six catches for 54 yards and a touchdown.

While Adams and Ferguson will help the Rams tread water, this is still a Super-Bowl-or-bust season for the team that is loaded with star players. It likely needs Nacua available if it is going to deliver on those expectations.

After all, he is one of the best wide receivers in the league when healthy and just tallied 129 catches for 1,715 yards and 10 touchdowns during the 2025 campaign while helping lead Los Angeles to the NFC Championship Game.
