Cowboys' Dak Prescott Jokes About 2012 Tony Romo Post After Breaking Record, 'I Was Just a Dumb Fan'

After breaking Tony Romo's franchise record for the most touchdown passes in Dallas Cowboys history in Sunday's victory over the Washington Commanders, star quarterback Dak Prescott reflected on his infamous 2012 tweet about his predecessor.

After Romo threw three interceptions in that 28-18 loss to Washington, Prescott tweeted, "I'm DONE taking up for Romo," adding the hashtag "#hadenough." He followed up with more tweets saying that Romo "doesn't finish and none of those interceptions are on the offensive line. #noexcuses," and "You're supposed to throw it over the guy's head. That was the most embarrassing one of them all. #stoptakingupforhim."

Prescott threw four touchdowns in Sunday's 37-20 win, which included his 249th career TD pass. After the game, he spoke about his past comments about Romo.

"I was a big fan of Romo," he said, per The Athletic's Jon Machota . "I was. I was a fan of the Cowboys, and so it led into being a fan of the quarterback of the Cowboys. Frustrated at times, as he was, or as some fans are of me, and there was a tweet out there, right, that when I got drafted, that was brought back up. I was just a dumb fan at that time, too. I didn't know exactly what he was dealing with, you know what I mean?"

Prescott completed 26 of his 31 passes for 279 yards in the victory. It was a strong bounce-back performance after Dallas' season-opening loss to the New York Giants.

"He was awesome today and he's been awesome for a long time," former Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said on NBC's Football Night in America on Sunday. "Eleven years as a starter. We had him as a rookie and he won 13 games. So, I wish people would just pull back and just appreciate that guy's greatness."

Prescott and the Cowboys (1-1) will return to action in Week 3 against the Baltimore Ravens (1-1).
