Sean Payton reacts to Bo Nix's 2026 debut: 'I thought he did a good job'

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix made his preseason debut against the Green Bay Packers last week, marking his first live game action since he broke his ankle in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs in January.

Nix went 6-of-9 passing for 76 yards with one touchdown, leading two scoring drives before watching the rest of the game from the sideline. Denver coach Sean Payton was asked about Nix's return to action after Monday's practice.

"Good. I thought he did a good job," Payton said . "Yes, his movement skills were good. A little fast through one progression, but overall, he did a good job operating the huddle. He's moving around well. [He] had a couple big throws and felt very, very comfortable."

The Green Bay matchup also marked offensive coordinator Davis Webb 's first game calling plays for Nix.

"[It was] smooth, it was good," Payton said of Webb's play-calling. "Communication process was good. Yes, no issues. It was all clean."

Denver's now set to close out preseason against the Minnesota Vikings on Friday. After that, attention will turn toward a Monday Night Football showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1 (Sept. 14).
