Drew Lock finds a wide-open Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a perfect 82-yard TD early vs. Cardinals

Drew Lock seems to be handling his new starting role in Seattle just fine.

The Seahawks quarterback threw a perfect 82-yard touchdown pass to All-Pro wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba on his very first pass of the game in their matchup with the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoon. That put Seattle up 7-0 almost instantly at State Farm Stadium.

That marked the longest touchdown reception of Smith-Njigba's career. The Cardinals did little to stop him, either, and left him completely open along the right sideline for the easy score. All Smith-Njigba had to do was juke briefly, and he was past cornerback Will Johnson and safety Budda Baker into open field.

Smith-Njigba has now scored twice this season. He caught a 45-yard touchdown pass from Lock in the fourth quarter of their 13-10 comeback win over the New England Patriots to open the NFL season. Lock stepped in to replace Sam Darnold, who went down early with a hip injury.

The Seahawks said that Darnold has a "very unique soft-tissue injury," and they don't expect him to be sidelined for long. He was not active for Sunday's game in Arizona, but head coach Mike Macdonald said that they don't expect him to land "on IR or anything like that." It seems like Darnold will be back sooner rather than later, though a specific timeline isn't yet known.

In the meantime, Lock is doing just fine leading the way.
