Multiple teams have "wondered" about Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. as a potential trade target, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz .

Per Schultz, opposing front offices have kept an eye on Pittsburgh potentially becoming open to trading Porter due to the current state of the cornerback market.

He'll carry a $4.9 million cap hit for the 2026 season before he's slated to hit free agency in 2027 (via Spotrac ).

Porter has yet to practice in training camp, as he remains on the physically unable to perform list after aggravating a back injury .

He was previously holding in during Pittsburgh's mandatory minicamp in June while he searched for a new contract.

Multiple top cornerbacks have been paid throughout the 2026 offseason, as the Seattle Seahawks handed Devon Witherspoon a four-year extension worth $132 million on Saturday.

The Cleveland Browns also agreed to a two-year, $62.2 million extension with Denzel Ward on July 28.

As for Porter, he's entering his fourth season on the Steelers after they initially selected him with a second-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft.

He's steadily blossomed into Pittsburgh's No. 1 corner and is coming off a 2025 campaign in which he racked up 52 tackles, 14 passes defended, one sack and one interception.

Porter allowed a mere 56.2 passer rating when targeted, according to Pro Football Focus .

With the lack of an extension agreement as Week 1 continues to draw closer, teams are reportedly monitoring the 26-year-old's availability.
