Brandon Aiyuk is back in the San Francisco 49ers' facility, four months after he vowed to never set foot in the building again.

Aiyuk, who has not played since October 2024 following a lengthy recovery from ACL and MCL tears, has also seen his career affected by an off-field feud with the team . After a year-long saga, the wide receiver finally returned to Santa Clara with agent Drew Rosenhaus in order to negotiate his reinstatement to the team at the Niners' business offices.

"I'm feeling great, feeling healthy. It was a long recovery process, a long rehab process, but I'm back to 100 percent and looking to get reinstated into the National Football League," Aiyuk said, via David Lombardi of the San Francisco Standard .

When asked, Aiyuk did not clarify whether he planned to return to the 49ers or hoped for the team to release him so he could pursue other opportunities.

However, if he does want to return to San Francisco, that bridge appears to have been burned. When asked about the situation in a news conference on Friday, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said that he had "no clue" what would happen with the meeting.

"Could [ sic ] care less," Shanahan said of the situation.

After the meeting, Rosenhaus told reporters that they did not have any additional updates, though Aiyuk said that they met with the "big bosses," via NBC Sports' Matt Maiocco .

To add to the drama, multiple reporters said that there were police officers outside of the facility ahead of Aiyuk's meeting. That presence came amid additional reports that an arrest warrant for Aiyuk , related to a speeding incident outside Levi's Stadium in December 2025, was still active.

Aiyuk's meeting at the 49ers' facility was another chapter in a lengthy, bitter saga between the receiver and his team. Last November, San Francisco voided Aiyuk's guarantees in the wake of an increasingly strained relationship with the 28-year-old wideout.

By January, general manager John Lynch was saying Aiyuk had played his final snap in a Niners uniform. That also appears to be something Aiyuk wants as well, as the receiver spent the summer publicly asking San Francisco to cut him.

On Wednesday, Aiyuk turned in his reinstatement paperwork , starting the process of his return to the team. The move came just a few days after the receiver hired Rosenhaus to help him launch his comeback.

The receiver will now hope San Francisco will release him so he can sign with a new team. However, Aiyuk reportedly also owes the Niners around $13 million in bonus forfeiture , though the NFL Management Council and NFL Players Association are reportedly trying to find a resolution.
