The Chicago Bears just sent a massive warning to the rest of the NFL, and it might have completely changed the Super Bowl picture.

Chicago pulled off one of the biggest moves of the season by acquiring Tennessee Titans superstar defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons in a blockbuster trade. The Bears gave up their 2027 and 2028 first-round picks, along with a 2027 fourth-round selection, to bring the four-time Pro Bowler to Chicago. They also received a 2028 fifth-round pick in the deal.

And honestly, this is the kind of move that can turn a good football team into a legitimate championship contender.

The Bears entered the season with plenty of offensive firepower behind Caleb Williams and head coach Ben Johnson. At 5-2, they had already shown they could compete with some of the best teams in the league. However, their biggest weakness remained on the defensive side of the football, particularly when it came to creating pressure up the middle.

That problem just got a whole lot smaller.

Simmons has already recorded four sacks, 38 tackles and six tackles for loss through seven games this season. He is coming off a dominant 2025 campaign in which he recorded 11 sacks and earned First-Team All-Pro honors.

Now imagine putting that kind of player alongside Montez Sweat and Grady Jarrett.

Opposing quarterbacks are going to have a nightmare trying to find time in the pocket. Simmons gives Chicago an elite interior presence who can disrupt plays, collapse the pocket and make life easier for everyone else on the defensive line.

The move has already sent shockwaves through the betting market. Chicago's Super Bowl odds improved from +1400 to +1100 at BetMGM, putting the Bears among the top teams in the championship race. Some sportsbooks have moved them even higher.

But the biggest takeaway is that Chicago isn't just hoping to compete anymore. General manager Ryan Poles is making it clear that this team believes its championship window is wide open.

Giving up two first-round picks is an enormous gamble, and the Bears are going to need Simmons to make a major impact for that price to pay off. Still, when you have a young quarterback, an explosive offense and a defense that just added one of the best players at his position, sitting back and waiting isn't always the answer.

The Bears have officially pushed their chips into the middle of the table.

San Francisco, Seattle, Los Angeles and the rest of the NFC contenders better take notice. Chicago just made one of the boldest moves of the entire season, and there is a real argument that the Bears now have everything needed to make a run at the Lombardi Trophy.
