Former Philadelphia Eagles running back Miles Sanders was arrested on DUI and careless driving charges in June after police found him slumped over in the driver’s seat of a Lexus stopped in the middle of William Penn Highway in Churchill Borough, Pennsylvania. According to CBS Pittsburgh, the 29-year-old was found in and out of consciousness and could not answer officers’ questions. Police said he later performed poorly on field sobriety tests and tested positive for alcohol. A package of suspected marijuana was also found inside the vehicle, according to court records. Sanders is due back in court in September. Police were called after a vehicle was reported sitting still in the middle of William Penn Highway near Beulah Road. When an officer reached the Lexus, Sanders was reportedly slumped over in the driver’s seat.According to the criminal complaint reported by CBS Pittsburgh, officers made several attempts to wake him. Police said Sanders appeared to be “in and out of consciousness” and “extremely lethargic,” while also saying he could not answer their questions. When he got out of the car, officers said his eyes looked glossy and his breath smelled of alcohol. Police also said Sanders admitted that he had been drinking earlier that day.Sanders then took field sobriety tests, and police said he performed poorly. A portable breath test also showed a positive result for alcohol, according to the complaint. Officers arrested him and charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance and careless driving.
