Baker Mayfield Injury, Latest on QB's Status and Timeline to Return After Exiting vs. Vikings

Baker Mayfield suffered a dislocated thumb on his throwing hand after throwing a fourth-quarter interception during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 20-16 loss against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Todd Bowles told reporters.

He was not on the field for the team's final possession, instead replaced by Jalon Daniels.

The 31-year-old finished 17-of-34 for 217 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Brian Flores' pressure-heavy defense sacked him six times.

It's been a rough season for the Buccaneers.

The team is now 0-3 after also losing to the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns. Mayfield has already been sacked 13 times this season—that's a pace of 73 sacks over the course of a 17-game season—and may be facing a stint on the sidelines after Sunday's injury.

The schedule won't be a cakewalk, either, with matchups against the Green Bay Packers, Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh Steelers, Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons and Chicago Bears before a Week 10 bye. Without Mayfield, that would be an even more difficult stretch.
