Ja'Marr Chase Injury Update, Latest on Bengals WR's Status After Apparent Leg Issue at Practice

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase appears to have avoided a serious left leg injury during his team's practice on Tuesday, as he said that he would've been able to continue if needed after suffering a "hyperextension."

CBS Cincinnati's Yanni Tragellis and NBC 5 Cincinnati's Charlie Clifford provided more information.

The former LSU star has posted a 17-game average of 113 catches, 1,490 yards and 12 touchdowns over his first five seasons (2021-2025), per Pro Football Reference .

Chase enjoyed a career-best 2024 season, winning the receiver triple crown with 127 catches, 1,708 yards and 17 touchdowns, leading pass-catchers in all categories. For his efforts, Chase earned himself a four-year, $161 million contract extension .

Chase was exceptional yet again in 2025, catching 125 passes for 1,412 yards and eight scores. He's put up those numbers despite the team missing superstar quarterback Joe Burrow, who was out nine weeks after suffering a Grade 3 turf toe injury a Week 2 win (31-27) against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

He's missed games due to injury on two separate occasions. In 2022 , Chase suffered a hairline hip fracture that cost him five games. In 2023 , an AC joint sprain forced him out for one game.

Losing the 26-year-old for any period of time would be a massive blow for the Bengals. Cincinnati does have other capable pass-catching talents, namely wide receiver Tee Higgins, who posted 1,000-yard seasons in 2021 and 2022 and caught 10 touchdown passes in 2024. But Chase is one of the game's elite wide receivers at his best. Replacing that superstar talent is impossible. Thankfully, all appears well here.
