‘You can’t throw three interceptions’: Mike Vrabel reacts to Drake Maye performance

The New England Patriots fell to the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday night in what was a very winnable game, with Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold going out with an injury on the first drive of the game. However, some second-half interceptions doomed the Patriots.

After the game, Vrabel did not shy away from the fact that Drake Maye 's picks ultimately cost his team the game.

With the Patriots holding a 10-3 lead late in the third quarter and moving into Seahawks territory, Maye tossed his first interception of the game on a deep throw. Seattle capitalized on the turnover, turning the possession into a touchdown.

On the ensuing possession, Maye was picked off again on a third-and-long, giving the Seahawks the ball in Patriots territory. Seattle once again took advantage, converting the turnover into a field goal to grab a 13-10 lead.

Then, on the Patriots' final offensive drive of the game, Maye threw his third interception while attempting to force a pass into the end zone on third down. The turnover ultimately denied New England an opportunity to attempt a game-tying field goal with only seconds remaining.

In the end, all three of the Patriots' final possessions resulted in interceptions by Maye.

"I lost patience, and it cost us. Decisions that cost us the game on my part… You can't have those. It's unacceptable. I gotta get back to work, because that wasn't how I play football," Maye said after the game.

After the game, Vrabel offered his candid thoughts on his quarterback's performance as he did not shy away from the fact that Maye's turnovers were the difference in the game.

"You can't throw three interceptions. Drake knows that," Vrabel said after the game during his postgame press conference.

With those three turnovers, the Patriots lost the turnover battle 3-0. Vrabel knows that it's difficult to win a game when that happens.

"We can't turn the ball over and we have to create more turnovers," Vrabel said. "There's a few things we have to eliminate that get you beat in this league."

That said, Vrabel still has confidence in his young quarterback as he has made the decision to stick by him despite the interceptions.

"It's a long season. Gotta hold your head up high," Vrabel said of Maye. "We have nothing but the utmost confidence in him."
