Cam Ward Responds to Reporter Who Critiqued His Titans Preseason Play in Video Ahead of NFL Week 1

Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward was asked by Nashville-based sports talk radio host and podcaster Jared Stillman during his Thursday press conference about how he would assess his preseason play.

"Glad you don't think so," Ward said after Stillman stated he didn't think the ex-Miami star had played well.

"That's good. I assess it as, did we win the game, or did we lose a game? I assess it as what I can get better at. I don't assess it as, someone who can get up there and operate when everything's on. It's a different process level. So it's more of slowing down the game to everybody. And I believe we made a huge jump from Week 1 to Week 2 because we're getting more condensed in a playbook. We're not really opening everything up. And, you know, when we come to Week 1, I think it'll be a different story."

Ward completed 5-of-12 passes for 57 yards in a 19-13 win over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1 of the preseason. He then connected on 8-of-12 passes for 69 yards in a 19-16 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2. The Titans' final preseason game will be Saturday evening at home against the Chicago Bears.

All told, he's 13-of-24 (54.2 percent completion rate) for 126 yards (5.3 yards per attempt) and zero touchdowns (but no interceptions).

This hasn't been a good preseason for Ward, as Stillman noted and others have pointed out.

Ward, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, had a tough start to his NFL career. Per Pro Football Reference , Ward finished 31st in passer rating and 32nd in QBR among 33 qualified passers last year.

Of course, Ward dealt with a tumultuous season in Tennessee, which went 3-14 and featured head coach Brian Callahan getting fired after six games (1-5).

Now there's new leadership in town with head coach Robert Saleh calling the shots and Brian Daboll running the offense. Tennessee also notably added two wide receivers in No. 4 overall draft pick Carnell Tate and free agent Wan'Dale Robinson, who caught 92 passes for 1,014 yards and four touchdowns last year for the New York Giants.

Ward may not have impressed thus far, and it's fair to be concerned. However, he was exceptional in college and is only one full year into his career. He can certainly turn this around in short order, and the games don't start for real anyway until Sunday, Sept. 13, when the Titans host the New York Jets. Ward is confident the offense will be faring well at that point.
