Justin Herbert's Brother Patrick Signs Contract with Chargers Practice Squad After Jaguars Exit

Justin Herbert is reportedly no longer the only member of his family on the Los Angeles Chargers.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported Monday that former Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Patrick Herbert, who is Justin's brother, is joining the Chargers' practice squad after the AFC South team waived him ahead of Sunday's roster-cut deadline.

According to Garafolo, Herbert received offers from multiple teams before deciding to join his brother on the Chargers.

The Herbert brothers played together at Oregon during the 2019 campaign and helped lead the Ducks to a 12-win season that ended with a Rose Bowl victory over Wisconsin.

Patrick Herbert does not have a catch in the regular season at the NFL level, although he tallied stats in the Jaguars' preseason victories over the New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers ahead of the 2026 campaign.

He finished with two tackles against the Saints and posted two catches for 12 yards against the Buccaneers.

With Charlie Kolar, Oronde Gadsden and David Njoku all on the roster, there may not be much playing time at tight end for Herbert. But if he does get a chance, he will be quite familiar with the quarterback who will be throwing him passes.

The Herberts and the Chargers start the 2026 season on Sept. 13 against the Arizona Cardinals.
