Lions' Jack Campbell Provides Injury Update in Statement, Remains 'Very Optimistic' About Recovery

Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell said Wednesday he's "incredibly encouraged by the progress I've made in such a short period of time" while recovering from a serious neck injury.
"I have full movement in my lower body, and I'm continuing to make progress with movement in my upper body," he said in a statement released by the team. "I know there's still work ahead, but I remain very optimistic. I'm taking things one day at a time, staying positive, and focusing on getting better."
Campbell went to tackle Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson during last Sunday's 19-15 win. His upper body bent backward in an unnatural way, and he remained motionless on the turf.
Trainers placed Campbell on a backboard and carted him off the field.
The team followed up Monday to say the 26-year-old remained hospitalized and showed "positive" progress.
A first-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft, Campbell is in his fourth season with Detroit. He was a Pro Bowler and All-Pro in 2025 after finishing with 176 combined tackles and three forced fumbles. The Lions rewarded him with a four-year, $81 million extension.
To open the season, Campbell has 57 tackles through seven games.
