The clock is ticking on Joey Porter Jr. 's contract talks with the Pittsburgh Steelers , so much so that the talented cornerback has been linked to an NFC East team amid trade speculation.

According to NFL reporter Jourdan Rodrigue, the Steelers should trade Porter to the Dallas Cowboys if they decide against handing out a massive extension.

"If you're not going to pay Joey Porter Jr., you've gotta trade him to the Dallas Cowboys," Rodrigue said via the NFL Daily podcast. "…My stance has been pay Joey Porter Jr. You know, Christian Gonzalez just got paid. I thought there was some eyeballing of seeing where each corner stood financially, and then maybe the contract getting resolved. I think he's one of the best corners in the NFL. I think so, I think he has such as high ceiling."

Rodrigue finished her argument by reiterating that the Steelers should ultimately move on from Porter if they don't plan on extending him. But honestly, that's a disaster waiting to happen.

The Steelers have historically refused to negotiate contracts mid-season, and the two sides are reportedly far apart on a deal just days from the Week 1 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons . It appears that Porter's extension won't get done, but the move to make is franchise-tagging him, followed by re-trying negotiations. A trade shouldn't even be Plan C at this point.
